I personally wasn’t able to fulfill this objective as fully as my first, but my supervisor and the CEO of the company trained me as to ways they go about seeking press for the events hosted by RIIFF. The first step in going about this is to produce a press release, and then send that statement to local Rhode Island newspapers or magazines. Also, creating banners and little hand held sized flyers to pass around which will hopefully seek press for our film events. As of the current, my supervisor informed me that the company was in the process of contacting similar film festivals outside the United States to possibly team up and support each other, making RIIFF a globally recognized film festival. Since our company has a French and European audience, this may be quite beneficial to the future expansion of the company.
Now since one of the other interns was in charge of the companies Facebook and Twitter pages, my supervisor brought me in to discuss ways we could go about spreading word of Oscar Night America 2012 through our social media pages. What she and I decided was to post little trivia questions, which would result in the distribution of free or discounted house seats tickets to the event. Utilizing social media as a method of generating press and attention is of utmost importance in this day and age.
Also, company CEO George T. Marshall appeared on the Rhode Show the day after our Oscar Night America 2012 event, to discuss the success of our event and chat about the wins and loses of the Oscars. This is another method Mr. Marshall and the rest of the RIIFF team go about spreading word about our event and bringing light to the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
