Background

The RIIFF internship was one that was resurrected from my past. I had spent a brief amount of time working with their two summer’s ago, and was so impressed I decided to re-apply as a part time intern. My mother is a close friend of the founder, and introduced us two (he having no idea about my passion for the art’s and film). Eventually, we spoke about my interests and he offered me a small amount time to come and view what it is a film festival does on a day-to-day basis. I was so impressed with the amount of time and effort the office put into developing their annual summer festival, that I knew this was something that would suit my abilities quite well. Event planning, marketing, organizing, viewing thousands of film entries (AKA watching films) all in one place seemed almost like my dream job. I knew almost immediately that RIIFF was the place for me, and selected this as my spring 2012 internship placement.

Personal Objectives with Activities/Resources, and Evidence

·      This internship allows for the opportunity to work for a non-profit organization. Additionally, the company is art-associated which enables interaction with various people from the film industry. The primary objective is to review, accept and place films (adequately in time slots and locations) for the many occurring festivals that occur with RIIFF.

·      In relation to my major (communications), the objective of this internship is to strengthen my skills as a writer and ultimately as a communicator. The objective will be to learn to handle people professionally and appropriately, as well as get a front row seat perspective on the many elements that are required in order to make a film festival a success.

·      I also plan on fine-tuning my organization skills. This is a personal objective I feel will not only better my work-ethic and ability to manage myself well at work with various projects, but allow me the opportunity to really ensure every component of whatever project I am working on is done thoroughly and perfectly (as I am a perfectionist). I plan to improve these skills by taking on various office responsibilities, keeping labels and tabs on all files/assignments, and micro-managing our Oscar Night America events (overseeing the catering, volunteers & guests all at the same time),
