Annotation #3 & Supporting Evidence
Objective: Building awareness of the festival.
-Activities/Resources:
- Outside of media publicity, really connecting with the Rhode Island state and opening our doors to a great evening at the movies
- Exposing artistic films & their original film makers
- Utilizing our social media outlets to spread the work to our younger demographics (i.e. Facebook & Twitter accounts)
-Evidence:
- Links to the companies Facebook & Twitter accounts
- Provide images of local letters or campaigns to alert the Rhode Island area about our festivals
My third and final professional objective when beginning my employment with The Rhode Island International Film Festival was to build awareness of the companies annual summer festival through the course of my employment. There were many components to building this event, since it is a weeklong affair where a great amount work needed & still needs to be put in:
· Confirming the multiple screening locations
· Figuring out how and where guests will park
· Will public transportation be needed
· Knowing if there will be a valet needed upon each site or not
· Will the local police need to be contacted to notify them of any potential parking hazards since so many people attend the individual festival events
· How and where will the filmmakers from all across the US & world be housed
· Will there be any compensation returned to filmmakers
…and many more. The first step I took to helping plan out this summers 15th annual summer film festival was to go through the past 5 years programs and noting all of the submission deadlines for the filmmakers, list any prior events that occur before the summer festival, list the actual events that WILL occur DURING the summer festival, and finally to list all of the venues in which screening events take place. Going through the programs to find all of these details were not the easiest tasks, seeing as how there were so many locations and various listings. Another problem that came about was seeing if any of these venues were still available, since everything was pushed back a few months due to the office being in the process of moving to another floor. Through it all, lists were composed and the little issues that at first seemed troublesome for the events quickly disappeared after the entire staff became organized and started being proactive and contacting whoever needed to be contacted.
As I mentioned in Annotation #2, I was not in charge of running the RIIFF’s social media sites (i.e. Twitter and LinkedIn accounts). However, I would tweet about the company and festival through my personal twitter account to spread word to my friends and followers!
